Lipi receives some healthcare but cannot afford to get her eyes tested (c) Mayur Paul/HelpAge International

Thursday, 3 April

This World Health Day, on 7 April, campaigners from across the HelpAge network will come together and campaign for affordable, accessible healthcare for people of ALL ages.

People like Lipi.

Lipi is 62 and lives with her children and grandchildren in a village in Bangladesh.

She receives some free healthcare, but the charity-run clinic has limited funds and cannot offer all the services Lipi needs — such as an eye clinic.

Lipi says: “My eyesight is going but I haven’t had my eyes tested in eight years as there is no affordable eye clinic in my region.

“We have to go to the other private hospital but I cannot afford the fees.”

Many older people such as Lipi want to continue working and supporting their families but are being let down by a lack of consistent, affordable and accessible healthcare.

That’s why this year Age Demands Action on Health campaigners in more than 40 countries will meet high level officials such as Health Ministers, speak to the media, take part in marches and tweet their decision-makers — calling for universal health coverage.

What’s happening in your country?

See below to find out what YOU can do to help people like Lipi!

Our world population is ageing and it’s ageing NOW!

Governments MUST provide access to primary healthcare, medicines and trained healthcare workers to respond to older people’s needs.

Please help us make that happen — for older people’s future and for your own future too!

Thank you very much and happy tweeting and campaigning!
