Kwa Wazee is an NGO that has been delivering a pension to older people in Muleba district, Tanzania since 2003. As one of only a few cash transfer programmes in Tanzania — and the one most directly focused on older people — it can provide important lessons for how a social pension could be delivered across Tanzania, and in other similar contexts. This research focuses on Ngenge ward — one of the most remote areas where the pension is delivered. It highlights the challenges and the opportunities of delivering a pension in rural contexts. It also explores the impacts of the pension on the older people who receive it. In this blog the authors give a brief overview of the report, which can be found here.
