Adult Immunization Advocacy Champion Summit Report

“At a time of unpredictable challenges for health, whether from a changing climate, emerging infectious diseases, or the next microbe that develops drug resistance, one trend is certain: the ageing of populations is rapidly accelerating worldwide.” – Director General, Dr Margaret Chan at the launch of the WHO World Report on Ageing and Health

On behalf of the International Federation on Ageing (IFA), the Confederation of Meningitis Organizations (CoMO) and Hacettepe University I am writing to inform you that through the diligent support of Summit Champions, the Adult Immunization Advocacy Champion Summit report has been published and now available on the IFA website under the Adult Immunization Advocacy project block.  Read the full Champion Summit report here:http://www.ifa-fiv.org/publication/health/adult-immunization-champion-summit/

The report summarizes discussions and outcomes of the Summit.  Delegates contributed to:

·         An improved understanding of country-specific adult immunization policies and practices in the Americas, Europe and Asia

·          Determining key barriers for older people in accessing appropriate vaccines

·         Better understanding of the challenges  civil society have in influencing government

·         Exploring the desire of an aligned group of experts and agencies across disciplines and sectors to work together to improve the rate of adult vaccinations through a World Coalition on Adult Vaccinations

The IFA urges all stakeholders across sectors and disciplines to support this report and help connect and create networks to drive innovation and change toward sustainable and purposeful outcomes in the field of vaccination to ensure healthy ageing for all.

By championing the improved uptake of adult vaccinations, societies as a whole will take the critical step to ensure that everyone has a chance to maintain and/or improve their health, well-being and functional capacity in later life.

If you are an NGO, academic, scientist, government member working in the field of health, ageing, or vaccination and would like to learn more and be part of the World Coalition on Adult Vaccination, please contact Ms. Izabella Kaczmarek (ikaczmarek@ifa-fiv.org).
