A Global Policy Forum on Reablement

The IFA and DaneAge are proud to announce the

to be convened on 17-19 April 2016.

The Summit is an invited-only international high-level knowledge exchange platform of government officials, industry leaders and civil society on the subject of improving the capacity and capability of older people through reablement.
Reablement services are a new and emerging trend in health and social care policy that aim to help people maximize their functional life through relatively simple interventions that appropriately minimize required support.
In preparing for this Summit the IFA and DanAge called on experts in the fields of dementia, diabetes, frailty and technology to build the case for reablement services as part of the cadre of policy responses to a person’s deteriorating function.
The case for reablement will be discussed and debated during the IFA Copenhagen Summit and contribute new evidence-based for the development of ageing policy as it relates to maintaining and improving the intrinsic capacity and functional ability of older people.

Age-friendly Environments — Islamic Republic of Iran
Recognizing population ageing as an emerging issue, in 2014 the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) 5th country Program in I.R. Iran established a partnership with the Secretariat of the National Council of the Elderly (SNCE) to develop a national strategic plan for the elderly.
IFA together with HelpAge International provided consultancy advice on Age Friendly Environments and the AgeWatch Index in I.R. Iran to ~ 70 participants from government, municipalities, NGOs and academics in November
Over the course of nearly 4 days (8-12 Nov) the IFA delivered educational sessions on age-friendly cities and communities (AFCC) comprising of:Overview and Framework; Guiding Principles for Sustainability; International Case Studies; Videos of existing global/city initiatives; Applying Learnings in Tehran; and a Review of the IFA Age Friendly Resource Manual.
If you are interested in these workshops by the IFA, please contact Mr. Greg Shaw (gshaw@ifa-fiv.org).  Read more about the Age-Friendly Environments Workshop here.

IFA Building Momentum on Discussions of Adult Vaccinations
In November, IFA convened two Adult Immunization Advocacy Summits in Brussels, Belgium.
  • The European Adult Immunization Advocacy Summit
  • The Adult Immunization Advocacy Champion Summit

The Summits demonstrated the need for leadership in the field of adult vaccinations from all levels of government, medicine, academics, NGOs and the general public to address the critical gaps that are impeding the expected coverage rates among adults.
Delegates unanimously agreed on the importance of working together to improve the rates of adult vaccinations globally through several critical areas:
  • Knowledge creation and dissemination
  • Education and communication
  • Mobilizing networks of professionals and civil society across sectors
  • Data gathering, analysis and surveillance
  • Advocacy that is multilevel, multi-sectoral and multidisciplinary
Keep your eyes peeled in December for the release of pivotal reports on the discussion and outcomes of both Vaccination Summits.
Advancing Innovation and Equity in Ageing Societies

From 1 — 5 November Mr. Shaw, Director International and Corporate Relations of the IFA attended the 540th Session of the Salzburg Global Seminar.
The Seminar brought together ~ 60 delegates from 23 countries to examine the global, regional, national, local and individual-led strategies needed in view of unprecedented rapid increase in population ageing and associated demographic trends such as globalization, migration and urbanization.
The Seminar concluded with what is known as the Salzburg Statement  that identifies the need to better respond to the rights and needs of older people through a holistic approach to care and support.  This approach aligns an individual’s needs, health, informal and formal care systems with their communities’ physical and social environment.
