UNITED NATIONS
The IFA at the United Nations
Since the IFA was founded, it has had a strong presence at the United Nations in New York. Our influence has increased over time, thanks to the leadership of Helen Hamlin, the Main UN Representative, and our other dedicated volunteer representatives: Valerie Levy, Cynthia Stuen, Sandra Timmermann, and Frances Zainoeddin.
With the addition of a few new members to our UN Team and initiatives underway to support a UN Convention on the Human Rights of Older Persons, we have decided to launch a monthly column, Live from New York. The column will keep our members and friends up-to-date with specific issues being raised at the UN, and let you know how you can become involved at a national level. It will cover highlights of the IFA’s ongoing work at the UN, including related activities of the NGO Committee on Ageing, UN assemblies and briefings, and other UN and NGO sponsored events that address the global concerns of the ageing population.
The work of the IFA UN team is aligned with IFA strategic goals, and in all they do, they bring forward IFA positions. In short, the team serves as the «eyes, ears and voice» for the IFA in New York.

Ageing Societies: Reaping the Longevity Dividend
November 29-30, 2016

This November, Mr. Greg Shaw, Director of International and Corporate Relations at the IFA, will present at The Economist’s Ageing Societies: Reaping the Longevity Dividend Summit.
This two-day event presents a unique opportunity to hear fresh perspectives from key public and private sector leaders on how they will engage with the challenges of an ageing population.
The event will bring global leaders from business, finance and health care together with policymakers to explore the opportunities of an ageing world. Together they will discuss how best to adapt financial products and realign business and public policies in ways that will drive economic growth and mitigate problems that ageing societies could otherwise bring.
The IFA is supporting The Economist to encourage the business world to review whether longevity is a challenge or an opportunity. All IFA supporters attending will receive a special 15% discount; quote IFA/DC when booking online.
