INIA’s Training Programmes 

100th In-Situ training programme in Social Gerontology, Mumbai, India

The International Institute on Ageing, United Nations-Malta (INIA), organised it’s 100th in-situ training programme in Social Gerontology, together with the International Longevity Centre-India (ILC-I) in collaboration with TATA Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). This programme was held between 11 — 15 April 2016 at TISS, Mumbai, India and attended by 27 participants, all working in the field of ageing.

Lectures which featured during this four day programme included: Global population of ageing; Population ageing in India; Health and Socio-economic aspects of ageing; Family dynamics; The Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing in older age; Medical conditions in older age; Health and nutrition; Dementia; Quality of Life and the importance of intergenerational solidarity.

The International Institute on Ageing, United Nations-Malta (INIA), organised an in-situ training programme in Gerontology and Geriatrics in Ankara, Turkey, held between the 25-29 April 2016, in collaboration with the Turkish Geriatrics Society. This training programme was attended by 29 participants, all working in the field of ageing.
Lectures which featured during this four day programme included: Global population of ageing; Population ageing in Turkey; Geriatric giants; Health and nutrition; The Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing in older age; Quality of Life in old age; Community services; Elder abuse; Home care; and Psychological aspects in older age.

INIA Satellite Centre for SAARC countries

On the 10 April 2016, the International Institute on Ageing, United Nations – Malta (INIA) and the International Longevity Centre-India (ILC-I)  signed an agreement whereby both parties agreed on mutual collaboration and to organise more in-situ training programmes on ageing for SAARC countries, so as to increase the capacity building.

Collaborative agreement between INIA and TGS

On the 25 April 2016, the International Institute on Ageing, United Nations – Malta (INIA) and the Turkish Geriatrics Society (TGS)  signed an agreement whereby both parties agreed on mutual collaboration and to organise more in-situ training programmes on ageing, in the coming future.

INIA visits A1 Snehanjali‬ assisted living care home-India

As part of her mission to Mumbai, India, Ms. Rosette Farrugia-Bonello (Research and Programmes Manager-INIA) had the courtesy to visit the A1 Snehanjali assisted living care home, located in Thane and run under the administration of Silver Inning Foundation.

Ms. Farrugia-Bonello was immediately welcome to the home by Ms. Jenet Faras the centre manager and it’s residents, where  she was embraced with flower reeds and hand made gifts made by the residents. Following the warm gesture, a show round of the home was given together with Mr. Sailesh Misrah, INIA’s past participant and founder of Silver Inning Foundation.

INIA meets Daniela Bas, Director DSPD UNDESA

On 3 March 2016, INIA’s Director Dr. Marvin Formosa and Research and Programme Manager Rosette Farrugia-Bonello met with Daniela Bas, Director of the Division for Social Policy and Development (DSPD) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA). Dr. Marvin Formosa spoke about the mandate and vision of INIA for the coming three years. Discussions evolved on how both entities are to collaborate, with the aim of meeting the challenges of population ageing through capacity building and training, most particularly in countries with low-economies and in countries with economies-in-transition. Daniela Bas congratulated INIA for its sterling work, and looked forward to INIA’s forthcoming work towards the achievement of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

ST. Petersburg, XI International Forum Senior Generation

Dr. Marvin Formosa (Director, INIA) attended the XI International Forum -Senior Generation in St. Petersburg, which was held between the 30 March — 2 April 2016.

The Senior Generation Forum is the biggest specialized exhibition and congress project in Russia, aimed at the development of the goods and services market for older persons for the purpose of creation of the most comfortable living conditions.

The Forum offered the space for demonstrations and discussions of products and services for older persons by the professional community on industry development. Dr. Formosa delivered a keynote presentation titled Four decades of the University of the Third Age: Past, present, future.

Masters Dissertation Seminar 

The Department of Gerontology, faculty for Social Wellbeing, University of Malta, organised a dissertation seminar which took place on 8 April 2016 at INIA. During this seminar, students reading for the Masters in Gerontology and Geriatrics, were given the opportunity to share and discuss their research idea with Dr. Marvin Formosa, Director, INIA and Head of Gerontology Department, University of Malta; Dr. Christian Borg Xuereb, lecturer gerontology, faculty of Social Wellbeing, University of Malta; Rosette-Farrugia Bonello, Research and Programme Manager, INIA; and respective colleagues.

UMANG 2016 — A Senior Citizen Talent Show was held on 16 April 2016 in #Mumbai Presented by Rotary Club of Nariman Point — Mumbai , Rotaract Club of Rizvi law College and Inner Wheel Club of Mumbai Nariman Point, in association with Silver Inning Foundation
Around 125 participant from 50 years of age to 79 years performed for a 1000 plus audience.
