In-Situ training programme in Gerontology & Geriatrics — Minsk, Belarus

The International Institute on Ageing, United Nations-Malta (INIA), held an in-situ training programme in collaboration with the UNFPA Belarus on Gerontology & Geriatrics. The in-situ programme was held in Minsk, Belarus, between the 10-12 October 2016, with the aim of supporting the implementation of the national demographic security program in Belarus. Leading experts specializing in demographic ageing have contributed together with other specialists namely from the spheres of social services and healthcare. In all, around 70 specialists took part in this programme, representing the Labour and Social Protection Ministry, the Healthcare Ministry, the Economy Ministry, and research institutions. 2016 UNFPA Executive Training Course on Population, Ageing and Development
|
|
A UNFPA Executive Training Course on Population, Ageing and Development, organised by Charles University, Faculty of Science, Department of Demography and Geodemography in collaboration with UNFPA and INIA was held in Malta between the 24 September till the 7 October. This two week programme was held at the Imperial Hotel in Sliema which was attended by sixteen participants hailing from Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kazakistan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Zimbabwe. In-Situ training programme in Social Gerontology — Quezon City Manila, the Philippines

The International Institute on Ageing, United Nations — Malta, in collaboration with the Philippine Society for Gerontology and Geriatrics (PSGG) organised an in-situ programme on Gerontology and Geriatrics in Quezon City, Manila, Philippines. The programme which was attended by 28 participants was held between 12 — 16 September 2016. INIA was represented by INIA’s Director Dr. Marvin Formosa and by INIA’s Deputy Director Dr. Peter Ferry who also lectured on the course.

The International Institute on Ageing, United Nations-Malta (INIA), held an in-situ training programme in collaboration with the Malaysian Research Institute on Ageing, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on Gerontology, Geriatrics and Gerotechnology. The in-situ programme was held at Vistana Kuala Lumpur Titwangsa, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia between 8 — 17 August 2016. The intensive ten days saw twenty international and local trainers from seven different countries delivering multidisciplinary lectures on the demography of ageing, population economics, biogerontology, geriatrics, psychogeriatrics, social gerontology, social protection, families in later life, older consumers, policies on ageing, gerotechnology and many more. A Memorandum of understanding (MoU) was held between the International Institute on Ageing, United Nations -Malta (INIA) and CHA University whereby both parties agreed on mutual collaboration and to organise training programmes on ageing so as to increase the capacity building.

A Memorandum of understanding (MoU) was held between the International Institute on Ageing, United Nations -Malta (INIA) and the Korean Association of Converging Humanities, South Korea (KACH) whereby both parties agreed on mutual collaboration and to organise training programmes on ageing so as to increase the capacity building.

On the occasion of the United Nations 26 celebration of the International Month of Older Persons, Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Angelo Farrugia has today paid a visit to the International Institute on Ageing, United Nations – Malta, INIA.
Mr Speaker had an exchange of views with INIA’s Director Dr. Marvin Formosa, on the ageing situation in Malta focusing on this year’s theme of “Taking a Stand against Ageism”. Hon. Farrugia said that in Malta’s fast-ageing society, older persons will increasingly be called to play a crucial role in society, both through voluntary work and through their participation in the paid labour force. He added that, from the parliamentary debates relating to ageing which he had chaired, he can confirm that there is a strong awareness in Malta about the need to strengthen the inclusion of older persons and to promote active ageing, and that a lot was already being done in this respect. Memory training & Memory jogging

|
In spirit of Worlds Alzheimers Day, which was officially celebrated on the 21 September, while in Malta, Dana Steinova — Head of the Czech Society for Memory training and Brain Jogging met with INIA’s Research and Programme Manager, Rosette Farrugia-Bonello, where both parties discussed potential collaboration between the Czech Society and INIA.

Dr. Marvin Formosa, INIA’s Director and Director, Department of Gerontology, University of Malta, delivered a Public Lecture on the 10 August 2016, titled ‘Four Decades of Universities of the Third Age — International Perspective’. The lecture was organised by the International Institute on Ageing, United Nations-Malta (INIA) in collaboration with University of Malta, Faculty of Social Wellbeing, Department of Gerontology, Universiti Putra Malaysia, University of the Third Age and with the Ministry for Women, Family and community Development, Putrajaya.

| On a recent visit to Seoul, South Korea, INIA’s Research and Programme Manager Rosette Farrugia-Bonello met with Prof. Dong Hee Han, Director at the Research Institute of Science for the Better Living of the Elderly, Busan and with Dr. Seung-Min Park Assistant Professor at the Department of Active Ageing Industry, CHA University, Seoul. Discussions were held about future collaborations between INIA, the Research Institute of Science for the Better living of the Elderly and CHA University. |
