Despite having the third largest population of over 60s in Southern Africa there has been little research into poverty amongst older people in Mozambique. With social protection still marginal to national level development debate in the country there is a stark need for more understanding of poverty across the life-course and the potential impact of social protection interventions.

In this blog Janet Duffield, HelpAge’s Country Director in Mozambique, introduces research into the poverty dynamics of older Mozambicans which is being carried out at the request of the Ministry of Women and Social Action and in collaboration with the Institute of Social and Economic Studies (IESE).
